IOM X C4D TOOLKIT
A step-by-step guide to applying Communication for Development (C4D) to counter-trafficking activities. This toolkit provides practical guidance for strengthening ongoing awareness-raising information campaigns and related outreach through the application of Communication for Development (C4D).
This toolkit will help you:
• Understand C4D and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC)
• Develop a C4D strategy for counter-trafficking initiatives
C4D is a people-centred concept. It is about using communication tools and activities to support social and behaviour change in a meaningful and sustained way. C4D follows a participatory process that is used to understand people’s knowledge, attitudes and practices around a certain issue to be able to work with them to develop empowering messages and tools. The ultimate goal of C4D is to achieve positive social and behaviour change, unlike other forms of organizational communication, which create communication materials to promote what an organization is doing or has achieved.
While this toolkit features guidance specific to researching, designing and implementing a strategic C4D campaign for the prevention of human trafficking and exploitation, it has been informed by best practices in the C4D domain broadly.
IOM X is the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) innovative campaign to encourage safe migration and public action to stop exploitation and human trafficking. The campaign leverages the power and popularity of media and technology to inspire young people and their communities to act against human trafficking. IOM X moves beyond raising awareness to effecting behaviour change by applying a Communication for Development (C4D), evidenced-based and participatory framework to tailor messaging for its activities. The campaign is produced in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
